Identification of SWB Battalion from date of entry to theatre.

Hi,

Can anyone tell me which battallion of the South Wales Borderers entered a theatre of war on the 1/10/1914 please?

Card doesn't state Theatre of War entered into unfortunately, only date.

The problem I appear to have, is that I have a couple of photos; In the first, he was apparently at Pembroke Dock in the 3rd SWB. However another photo (Presumably later, as he wote on the reverse that it was to be forwarded to my great grandmother, should anything happen to him), has D Coy, 2nd SWB, BEF, France, written on it.

From the information contained within the website, it appears that the 2nd SWB were in the Far East, and the 3rd Battalion never left the UK. I know he fought, as he died as a result of mustard gas poisoning some years after the war.

Looking at the SWB History,it would be the 2nd Btn ,the 1st Btn landed in France 13 August. The 2nd Btn were involved in The Battle of Tsingtao ..the attack on the German controlled port of Tsingtao in China between 27 August and 7 November 1914 and was fought by Japan and Britain against Germany.
