Hans k. Posted 1 January , 2009 Share Posted 1 January , 2009 That particular helmet in gew98's link initially got rave reviews, mostly from WW2 helmet collectors. In my opinion this is a good example of a fantasy helmet with a mixture of highly desireable (and also contradictory) insignia created from the ground up with the intention of deceiving inexperienced collectors. Although the exterior may look impressive at first glance, closer inspection should raise red flags. In cases like this the helmet has to be looked at as a whole, not just the camo or the insignia, and the interior is certainly the weakest link in the chain and immediately gives it away. It was apparently sold to the forum member by a respected authority on WW2 helmets. Hans
trenchtrotter Posted 11 February , 2010 Author Share Posted 11 February , 2010 Resurrecting this thread with piccies of another helmet...plain field grey but named inside to a MGK sharp shooter and also another name etched into the leather band. A stamp BA X111 also present...therefore Wurttemberg issue originally. Ignoring the bad banter in earlier posts this remains a useful thread for reference. Hans k. Posted 15 February , 2010 Share Posted 15 February , 2010 TT, thanks for posting the helmet. I'd love to see the interior, especially the markings you mention. It's unusual to find a BA stamp in a Stahlhelm. Is it on the liner? Hans
