Terry Posted 13 January , 2004 Posted 13 January , 2004 Hi all, Just received the medals I had purchased from Warburton on this site, and the pair of medals to 6314 Pte.Albert Keeley, Rifle Brigade, is accompanied by the medal index card. Notification of the award of the SWB is given, along with the comments: Date of enlistment 18/10/15 Date of discharge 28/12/16 Cause of discharge Para 392 XVI KR Wounds I assume KR is King's Regulations. Anyone know just what Para 392 has to say? Finally, Keeley's unit is noted as Rifle Brigade Depot. May I assume that he must have been posted to the depot while recovering from his wounds, and that he was then discharged from that unit, as opposed to a service battalion?
Muerrisch Posted 13 January , 2004 Posted 13 January , 2004 plenty on this KR on site: in fact, everything. Use SEARCH.
Muerrisch Posted 13 January , 2004 Posted 13 January , 2004 I meant to add that posting to Depot/Special Reserve battalion [3rd] was usual when wounded soldiers [includes officers] were sent home to recover. They were taken off their old battalion posted strength. Thus, depot/SR numbers became huge, running into thousands, many of them lying in hospital somewhere, all needing to be administered, paid etc. Something we would struggle to manage in 2004, computers and all.
Terry Posted 13 January , 2004 Author Posted 13 January , 2004 Thanks for the info. I did a check to get the details on para 392. This fellow's service number (6314) seems pretty low. an you think of any way to check on which battalion he served with, as there is nothing on the MIC?
Muerrisch Posted 13 January , 2004 Posted 13 January , 2004 You need a regimental expert on relevant numbers: were he one of my boys I would say either SR, or TF, given such a low number and late enlistment. Both types were still taking recruits at that sort of date.
Paul Reed Posted 13 January , 2004 Posted 13 January , 2004 The number is not that low for the Rifle Brigade, and should have a letter prefix. The only was to ascertain which battalion he served in is to check the Medal Roll in WO329.
Terry Posted 13 January , 2004 Author Posted 13 January , 2004 Hi Paul, No letter prefix; just the number.
anthonyl Posted 19 February , 2004 Posted 19 February , 2004 Paul Not so sure about RB service numbers having prefixes My GF 6562 J.Byrne 1st Btn was a reservist he enlisted in 1901 or 1902 I was told that his No. Indicates this ? Regards Anthonyl
