I see from CWGC that he's one of 19 "missing" commemorated on the Cologne memorial, who died as PoWs but whose burial place is not known. Perhaps the missing place also accounts for the very imprecise timescale. I'd guess he must have been taken prisoner on 22/8 and , seeing as he wasnt alive by 22/11, he could only be presumed to have died sometime in between.
