Killed in action

I have seen details on SDGW and CWGC of soldiers killed between a couple of day but never this long.

Mick

I suspect there's a story there waiting to be discovered.

I see from CWGC that he's one of 19 "missing" commemorated on the Cologne memorial, who died as PoWs but whose burial place is not known. Perhaps the missing place also accounts for the very imprecise timescale.

I'd guess he must have been taken prisoner on 22/8 and , seeing as he wasnt alive by 22/11, he could only be presumed to have died sometime in between.

I wonder if there was some information that lead them to believe that he may have been alive after the armistice?

This has highlighted a gap in my knowledge (one of many I know)....when and how were the POW camps liberated?

Risaldar Rai Singh, 10th Lancers, is shown on CWGC as killed:

"between 03/09/1920 and 31/08/1921"

He was, in fact, killed on the first date, alongside Captain O.P.B. Russell.

There are many examples in the CWGC database (mostly African or Asian troops) who are listed as Died between 04.08.14 and 31.08.21.

You can't get any longer than that!

Where does that website collate the information? I understood it was from SDGW, if it does come from SDGW then they are transcribing incorrectly.

If you enter between in the date field on my search page, you will find many with a date range. Most are a day or two.
