Hi,

I' va got a Victory medal named LSR-546 PTE.C.R.BAKER. R.SUSS.R.

I'am very intrested to know what the LSR stands for. I belive it could be somthing special reserve?

Is this unique to the Sussex regiment?

Please could someone provide me with some history on these men. EG when did they enlist or how many were there? Who knows someone may know someting about this soldier.

Any help will be most valued.

Rowland.

It is unique to the Royal Sussex; it indicates a soldier who was a member of the Special Reserve. There are two types of prefix: 'LSR' and 'GSSR' or sometimes 'GSR'. I think the difference between the two is that with the LSR prefix the soldier may have still been under the terms of his regular army enlistment; GSSR may indicate a soldier enlisted under the terms of 'Duration of War only'.

You might find my Royal Sussex pages of interest on my website:

Six years later and thanks for the LSR answer!

Would that make the Lieutenant in Plot 37 Row H Grave 24 a man of the Royal Sussex Regiment for sure? There is a Second Lieutenant of the regiment missing with a MM but not a Lieutenant.

If they were able to note LSR why not the number after the Prefix.

L - Long

S - Service

R - Ribbon

I think they found the ribbons on the tunic, not the actual medals

looking at were they body was found and the others above him.

so could be Australian or Canadian
