Chris Henschke Posted 12 January , 2004 Share Posted 12 January , 2004 Small arms ammunition was Group II, Division 1A. In which classification were No. 5 or No. 23 Grenades grouped? I visited the trench exhibition at the IWM last year and noticed the grenade boxes were painted grey. Has anyone seen a Great War dated, verifiable grenade box? Geoff Parker Posted 12 January , 2004 Share Posted 12 January , 2004 Chris I've done a bit of research on this and have some definitive information on No.23 and No.36 grenade boxes from a 1918 publication which were painted grey. No.5 boxes were painted grey later but I've been able to find out if they were painted this colour from the outset of their issue. I did ask a similar question on this forum last year but never got any replies. Will let you know what I have tomorrow. Geoff
