Guest LC PATRICK WALL Posted 10 January , 2004 Posted 10 January , 2004 My Uncle Lance Corporal 5469 Patrick Wall , 27 years, died in battlle in The Somme on Thurs. March 21st 1918. His Regiment was 2nd BN. Leinster. I would like to trace his movements in the last days of battle. Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated. There is a small reminder to the rest of his family on the last anniversary of his death attached. Patrick1.htm
Chris_Baker Posted 10 January , 2004 Posted 10 January , 2004 Hello, and welcome to the forum Here are a few snippets of information. A brief history of the 2nd Leinsters appears on this page. It tells you their attachments to higher formations, and if you click on those you can see which battles and engagements they were involved in. This page gives you a summary of the events of 21 March 1918, and you will be able to see where the Leinsters were in action. The British Official History (1918, vol 1) says. "Behind these two battalions [referring to 6/Connaught Rangers and 1/Royal Munsters], the third battalion (2/Leinster) of the same brigade was moving up from near Villers Faucon (one mile west of Ste Emilie) to reinforce..." It's a start!
Yorts Posted 10 January , 2004 Posted 10 January , 2004 Hi, Consulting the battalion war diary at the Public Records office at Kew would give you a bit more detail, although would not refer to an individual. His medal index card and possibly his service record will be there as well. Rgds, Alex.
