Remembered Today:

Military Cross

In my quest for information for the 2004 Remembrance Service at Thetford Grammar School I am trying to track down the event which led to the award of an MC to Lt. Charles Douglas Wells RAF Died 16/5/18 - originally commissioned into 7th Bn. Royal Lancaster Regt. 1914 and transferred to RAF 1918.

As always most grateful for any help.

Best wishes,

David

Have you done a search on the London Gazette website? May well not give you the precise incident but probably a sufficient clue which you could then look up in the relevent unit War Diary.

Hi,

Temporary Lt. C. D. Wells R. Lancashire Regt. awarded Military Cross New Years Honours List, in the London Gazette 1/1/18. There was no citation. If it was a MC for gallantry then the Bn. war diary may well give an idea of why he was awarded the MC. Failing that a copy of his obituary may be a good reference. Do note that the MC was not always awarded for gallantry - note that a recent thread touched upon this sbject.

regards,

Alex.
