Found him! so many pages for Thomas Wilson. It is when you see just pages and pages of soldiers all with the same name you begin to understand the magnitude of it all. So sad. Unfortunately none of those are your man. Although I have looked at BDMs for the years 1918 - 1922 and there are a few R Howarths they are not really much help. As you will undoubtedly know, they give no details that would show whether one of them is your Robert J Howarth. I thought he may have been in the military death overseas records but not there either. So, you were right in the first place, he is a complete mystery! Sorry I can't help. Ralph Note of caution, mate.......you can't assume that he must be a Lancastrian "other rank". Could be an army officer, navy or air personnel or, of course, served with an overseas force (Dominion or US). None are going to show up on Soldiers Died and, therefore, the FindmyPast records. Or that he was simply working in the area. My shortest "in the area" is a chap who'd worked at the local hospital for 4 weeks - enough to get him on the memorial. Typically just something like "Killed in Action" and "France". I may be wrong, but this is the case for the ones I have seen. Grace Your point is well made. Whilst no criticism is intended of Ryegate for producing much useful information (including that from Soldiers Died in the Great War) forum members might want to look at this example of a typical WW1 death certificate before spending £7. Some might still want to purchase these death certificates for the sake of completion but many others might consider them a waste of money given that the information they usually contain is otherwise available via CWGC and SDGW.
