Worcester Cathedral Bell Ringers Memorial Window

Erected by the Diocesan Bell Ringers Association in memory of their

Comrades who gave their lives in the Great War 1914 – 1919

I would suggest cross-referencing this with the information given on the Central Council for Church Bell Ringers (CCCBR) roll of honour for members of the Worcester Diocesan Association http://www.cccbr.org.uk/rolls/societies/details.php?id=41&name=Worcestershire%20and%20District%20Association&warID=1 - nb they will not all have been regular ringers at the cathedral, but may have rung at any church in the Diocese of Worcester. I haven't worked out the numbers, men could also be listed under eg Dudley and Districts Association, or non-territorial associations such as the College Youths or Cumberland Youths; or University associations. The CCCBR list also indicates with which church the man was principally associated, which helps pin them down

ALF

My Bristol roll of Honour has some 4,600 names on it.I have researched them all, through G.W.G.C. & SOLDIERS THAT DIED. They are on a date-base that I have made up.Probably not the best in the world, but ,never-the-less they are all there.I also have, as part of the same, original, document a list of those who gained awards,in ww1,both civilians and military.I am not so good at getting the material onto disk, but my son is a computer graduate, and knows how to do it.When I can corner him into showing me how to make the said disks, would you like a copy? It is also my intention to let Chris Baker have a copy to put on THE LONG LONG TRAIL. If he thinks it is goodenough and appropiate.

I do have other material from a lot of the East Bristol churches. This I will place on this thread as and when.

I dont know if this is appropiate, but perhaps this thread might become the basis of a sub-site on the long long trail.

My w-mail address is on the site information about me.Feel free to get in touch.

When the acute stage of the disease was over, patient improved slowly but steadily. he was able to digest his food well and had begun to take a little exercise. he had shown signs of Myocarditis previously and been treated with digitalis. He improved steadily while the heat was not excessive, but when about a fortnight ago the heat suddenly became much greater it affected him considerably. He had to be confined to bed. his appetite failed, and he would take practically nothing except milk. On examination his pulse was seen to be rapid and irregular. There was some dilation of the right side of the heart Cyanosis and weak impulse. Unfortunately he could not be transferred for invaliding at that time as he was not quite free from infection. On the 20th July 1917, patient began to vomit, the vomiting became more and more persistent until practically no food was retained in his stomach. Digitalin was given hypodermically and stimulants administered at regular intervals, food was given in small quantities at frequent intervals. On 25.7.17 and 27.7.17 the patient was a good deal troubled with hiccough and the vomiting was worse. The shortness of breath too was now much more increased. On the afternoon of 27.7.17 he suddenly changed very definately for the worse - his pulse was imperceptible at the wrist. Cyanosis and shortness of breath were very prominent.
