5th Staffs Leek Battalion Home Guard “C” Company

Roll of Honour

It is located between Mermaid Pool and the Mermaid Inn near Leek, Staffordshire at the trig point. The moument was erected by the Leek Home Guard ex commander, Fred Adams in 1946. and it going to officially recognised on Sunday 6th April 2008 by a dedication service of relatives and friends of the soldiers.

Re Owen William Parry that you have on the Alderley Edge memorial. Everything that I have points to that particular Owen Parry being linked to Bangor, Caernarfonshire including a book written shortly after the War. I note that when you have a doubt you state 'unable to find correct etc' Do you have anything about him and Alderley Edge that I may update my file? I'll send you what I have if you want.

(The canadian casualty has links to Cheshire albeit the bit that is now the Wirral)

“We will remember them by day and in the night season we will not forget


The original Chipping Sodbury Market Cross was erected about 1553 near this site. It was finally removed to the Presbytery remaining there for many years. The existing portions were reunited to the town when it was restored and re-erected by public subscription in the year 1920
