Hi,

I have recently found a copy of my grandfather's medal roll at Kew which shows that he served in the 1/5 Bn., of the Queen's Regiment. I understand from the notes on the 'Long, Long Trail' that this battalion served in Mesopotania from December 1915 to the end of WW1.

Do any Pals know more of their history? Is there a good book that describes the Battalion's involvement in this campaign?

Regards,

Keith

You want to get a copy of this book:

HISTORY OF THE QUEEN’S ROYAL (WEST SURREY) REGIMENT (IN THE GREAT WAR)

by Col. H. C. Wylly

isbn: 1843425394

What are your Grandfather details i'll see if I have any information on him

Hi Keith

The IWM's Department of Documents hold a good typescript diary of Pte H White, who served with the 1/5th The Queens in Mespot. I used this whilst researching a forthcoming book on the campaign. It proved very useful regarding daily life on the outpost line around Nasiriya on the Euphrates - mostly comprising a round of training and punitive raids on Arab camps and villages - on occasion the two overlapped!. The reference number for the diary is 97/17/1

Many thanks to both Neil and Alan.

To answer Neil's question. My grandfather's details are as follows:

Pte William Parsons T2255 and T240530

Any information greatfully received!

Thanks Neil,

That's about all I know at present!

Hence, my request for information about the history of the Battalion. Will now try to get a copy of the book you have recommended. I will also try to get back to Kew sometime to search the 'burnt records'.

Many thanks for your help.

Regards,

Keith
