Guest KLIFF SNOW Posted 2 January , 2004 Posted 2 January , 2004 Hello, In my local cemetery there is a gentleman buried who recived the DCM, this is marked after his name. His name was Christopher O'Brien and he served with the 1st Battlion Connaught Rangers, no 7195, he was a Corporal when he recived the DCM, and ended the War as an Acting 2nd Class Warrant Officer( Act WO11). It appears from his medal roll that the citation for the DCM appeared in the London Gazette on the 30/3/1916, as under Operations on the medal card it says, DCM LG, then under VOL it says 30.3.1916 and under page A 27/-19. I had a look on the London Gazette but there does not appear an issue from the 30th March 1916. Is there anyone out there who maybe able to shed any light on the gentleman. Many thanks, Klifton Snow
John_Hartley Posted 2 January , 2004 Posted 2 January , 2004 Klifton Have you tried a search through the London Gazette website? He will be there somewhere. Don't fuss about the date, concentrate on his name. You might have to try a number of variations before you get a hit - but try J. O'Brien and J. Obrien, first. Don't forget the period after his intial. It'll probably be in a LG edition round about 30/3/16 - look for anything, say, three months either side. Good hunting John
Brigantian Posted 2 January , 2004 Posted 2 January , 2004 Klifton Here's the citation you're after: SUPPLEMENT To THE LONDON GAZETTE, 30 MARCH, 1916. 3441 7195 Corporal C. O'Brien, 1st Battalion, Connaught Rangers. For conspicuous gallantry. Corporal O'Brien and Private Hannon went out twice to find and repair breaks in the wires under heavy shell fire at a time when communication was of great importance. Regards Mark
Chris_Baker Posted 2 January , 2004 Posted 2 January , 2004 Here is the page from the LG: click. I found it by searching for 3441.
Guest KLIFF SNOW Posted 7 January , 2004 Posted 7 January , 2004 To all who repiled to my post, Thankyou very much, Kliff Snow
