Stuart Brown Posted 30 December , 2003 Share Posted 30 December , 2003 With this regiment my understanding is that the BWM and the Victory medal were impressed "Notts & Derby R" without exception. You will see from the image that one is impressed " N. & D. R." My first thoughts were that it was renamed and to a certain extent I still believe that. I am aware that such abbreviations are seen on gallantry awards. The "R" of the suspect one appears to be smaller than the other letters but other than that the letters compare well with the remaining letters . When measured and compared with another specimen all appears in order. Has anyone else come across a similar abbreviation on a Victory medal? thank you Stuart
Davben Posted 17 January , 2004 Share Posted 17 January , 2004 Stuart, I Compare my Grandfathers 1914/15 Star with your medals and all seems the same, though the stamping on both his silver and victory medals are slightly different sizes, they all read Notts & Derby R.
