Terry Carter Posted 12 January , 2003 Share Posted 12 January , 2003 I know as much as I can about my two great uncles who came from Talfourd Street, Small Heath, B'ham. They are the only two men who died in the Great War with the surname Witsey. Pte Charles Witsey, 8470, was a pre-war Special Reservist and on the outbreak of war was drafted to the 1st Worcesters. He DOW at Etaples on 6/11/16 after an action near Guedecourt on the Somme. Pte John or Jack Witsey, 203353, was a Territorial with the 1/5th South Staffs. He had been wounded once and he was killed on 9/8/18 and is buried in Fouquieres Chuchyard Ext. Unfortunately no photographs survive in the family of them. I know this is a very small chance, but, they might be on a group photograph in some persons postcard collection. Thanks Terry
