Challenge for Canadian Pals

Cant seem to locate this CEF man anywhere. I know he existed, as evidenced by this original poster with his details; however there is no record of him at the NA as far as I can tell?

Any help from the Canadian Pals (or others) welcome

Man in question:

Pte. B. McKettrick

74th Battalion

Enlisted at Selby Ontario November 20, 1915.

In pencil written on the bottom of the display is 'Returned home September 20th 1916'

David, you may have already tried this, but I would go to NAC, start with #135001 and increment as necessary until you find him.

135001 to 138000 was the range assigned to 74th Btn (from Love).

I tried variations of spelling, but no joy. Let me know if you have any luck.

Where did you find that delicious poster, by the way?

Anyone with a 74th Battalion Nominal Roll might be able to solve this mystery?

Hi David:

I don't think the 74th Battalion published their history; at least I haven't seen one listed.

The 74th Battalion were used as reinforcements for the 50th, 51st, 52nd & 2nd CMR. You may want to see if you can find a nominal roll in one of the following histories (which I don't have):

'Souvenir Album Of Officers, N.C.O.'s. And Men Of The 50th Overseas Battalion C.E.F.' published by Stafford & Kent.

'The 2nd Canadian Mounted Rifles (British Columbia Horse) In France and Flanders' by G. Chalmers Johnston, published in 1931.

David,

Think Ive found your man for you on the NAC website .

MCKITTRICK , BERNICE

reg no. 220261

Ive recently had a bit of luck searching for a man on the NAC and thought I would see if it rubbed off onto your man.

I used the ? in the search function for the spelling of his name....and bingo :D

Happy new year

D--n and blast! Dave wins! Enlisting into the 80th Btn out of 47 Regiment on November 20, 1915.

I must say I'm glad I wasn't christened Bernice . . .

Good work Dave,

Peter in snowy Vancouver

Well done Dave!!!

You got him. I subsequently took a magnifying glass to the photo, and was able to clearly see an 80th Bn. Cap Badge.

Strike another for the Pals!

Best wishes for a happy new year,

Thanks so much for your help!

David
