Don't think of eBay as reality in pricing anything. There are too many lunatics on Ebay willing to pay anything for something they want.

I think the Jubilee Medal will take its place with the other 35 pound medals in due course. It's just a matter of an adequate supply filtering into the market.

cheers folks...wonder will there ever be a list of all those that got them compiled. Rumours abounded work that they were going for £150 on ebay and lots wanted to off load them at that price...sad faces in work tomorrow!

Point taken Jeff but I would guess there are now more medals sold on ebay than anywhere else by quite a long way and dealers are taking their lead from the prices realised on ebay and speedbid. Whether we like it or not (and I don't) ebay prices are in the main realistic.

However, the Medal Year Book 2003 has the 1977 Jubilee Medal between £130-£150 (£70-90 for the Canadian version).

One point with regard to eBay pricing is that at the moment medals on it are cheaper than the majority of dealer lists, with a few exceptions. It is sad to see a number of friends in the trade struggling at the moment, but how can they expect people to realistically pay over the odds for something which has done the rounds. The internet auction houses at the moment are the best source of virgin material and the best way of picking up a sleeper.

I would agree that there are some items which seem to go for lunatic amounts, medals to the MGC is a good example. But the same is being seen in 'real time' auctions now. For example, I was at a general auction near Dorking before Xmas and saw a RFC non-casualty pair go for £95. A non-casualty trio to the RFA went for £80, and a BWM single to the Tank Corps with WW2 Defence medal and associated photographs and ephemera for £110.

Madness - maybe, but not restricted to the internet!
