7th Battalion Gordon Highlanders was a Territorial battalion already in existance at Banchory on 4.8.14 Landed Boulogne 3.5.15. Became part of 154 Bde 51 Div on 12.5.15. Transferred to 152 Bde and amalgamated with 6th Gordons, becoming 6th/7th Gordons.

As the "first line" of the 7th Battalion it is often referred to as 1/7th. Second and third line battalions were raised (2/7th & 3/7th) but neither served overseas

This, about 51 Div, is linked from Chris's "Long, Long Trail" website:-

Hi Jim Gordon who used to frequent this forum has transcribed the 7 Gordons War Diary

My Gt Uncle Archibald Douglas Spark served with them until Jan 1916

I remember finding this at the PRO:-

22/11/15 AVELUY The roads were hard with frost

4.30 Relief of 1/8 A.I.S.H. commenced in Sector F1 and finished 6.15pm. Lt Spark tested his machine guns with burst of fire on enemy front line trenches opposite our sector.

If there is anything specific I might be able to help

Cheers

Jane

Hi Ian,

Have you read "The Fifty-First in France" by Capt Robert Ross? It covers the 7th Battalion's activities from May 1915 to Nov 1916. The book is usually available on ebay or Naval & Military Press.
