'Artillery Formation'

What exactly is an 'artillery formation' performed by an infantry unit?

I would appreciate a definition from any 'pal' in the know.

Hi Steve

If you go to the 'Other' Forum in 'The soldiers and armies of the Great War', then scroll to the bottom of the page, you will find the 'Search' facility. Type in the keywords 'artillery formation' and you will get two responses. The first thread will answer your question. It includes a neat diagram of the artillery formation, which was the open formation adopted by infantry who were traversing an area that could be or was being bombarded with artillery.
