stevehowarth Posted 23 December , 2003 Share Posted 23 December , 2003 Hi I'm researching Captain Alec Wilson of 1st Bt. Herefordshire Reg. He was killed at the battle of Gaza, Palestine, on 26 March 1917. Has anyone got access to the War Diary or knows of any decent sources covering this battalion or battle/campaign? Thanks Steve
Myrtle Posted 23 December , 2003 Share Posted 23 December , 2003 Steve I am hoping to look at the 1st Herefordshire Reg. Diaries before too long, however at the moment I have Manu Forti which is The History of The Herefordshire Regiment by Lieutenant-Colonel Tom Hill. This contains an outline of 24th-27th March at Gaza but there is no mention of Capt. A Wilson except for his entry on the Roll of Honour at the back of the book. By the time the battalion withdrew to north of Mansura on the 27th March, 17 out of 22 officers had been killed wounded or were missing. If you want me to send you more information contact me with your email address. Myrtle
Thomas Posted 24 December , 2003 Share Posted 24 December , 2003 If you want a general history of the Palestine campaign then Anthony Bruce's The Last Crusade is very good. From, Thomas McCall.
