brindlerp Posted 22 December , 2003 Share Posted 22 December , 2003 Castle Bromwich aerodrome of World War One, 1920s and 1930s vintage, which itself went on to become RAF Castle Bromwich in the Second World War. The area is rightly famous for the production, between 1939 - 1945, of nearly 12,000 Spitfire fighters, and 300 Lancaster bombers in the factories that surrounded the site. All of which first flew on their maiden test flight from Castle Bromwich. Tom Morgan Posted 22 December , 2003 Share Posted 22 December , 2003 Mike is eminently correct - the Wright Brothers certainly didn't wait until 1908 to do their stuff, as Chris John's article originally said - until I corrected it a few minutes ago! Thanks for spotting the error, Mike. Tom
