welshdoc Posted 28 May , 2007 Share Posted 28 May , 2007 As I said I know its voluntary and I dont criticise the costs or the request for such. I do not understand why you seem to worry that others are photographing gravestones, If I wanted 170 pics and could I would go and do it myself if I could and have the fun of doing it as well. shaymen Posted 29 May , 2007 Share Posted 29 May , 2007 I have had a few pics taken by fellow forum pals over the past few years of which I am extremely grateful (including from Martin) and in turn always offer my services when I manage to get out there. I feel the BWMP is a terrific resource and wouldn't knock paying a fiver but on the other hand I also feel its an important part of this forum being able to offer and use others for photo requests. I also feel there are many pictures that I feel I need to take myself rather than use a third party. Basically there's room for Forum requests as well as the BWMP. I am sure the BWMP will be used by many many people who are not part of this forum where in here a fellow pal will take a pic and e-mail it to you, seems easier to me. Do the BWMP send there pics via e-mail or only hard copies ? Glyn

stevem49 Posted 29 May , 2007 Share Posted 29 May , 2007 Sorry - are you saying that by us taking photos for other people we are somehow taking money from your voluntary project? I am of limited means but happily take photos for people, put some on my website (at my cost) leave crosses and wreaths, post or email the photos. With the best will in the world I cannot see how the word 'voluntary' can be used. The other point is that when anyone takes photos , they are a snap shot in time. The stones may look better in a different light, the headstone may have been re-etched etc. Your project is no doubt worthy but please do not decry people who happily take photos for other people. If someone is researching a battalion and say 800 men were killed - that is a lot of £5s and if there are fellow GWF pals willing to help out - why not. tod1966 Posted 4 April , 2011 Share Posted 4 April , 2011 No problem with the photos - assuming I remember to take the details with me of course! I am sure I could have added the list in a more user friendly way but the graves we are visiting is below. Some memebers will certainly recognise some of the names as we have taken a fair bit of info from the Forum as well as looking at service records and war diaries. You mention you visited James Ducketts grave. If you have any info I would be very grateful of any, as he was my Grand ? Uncle and 1 of only 2 relations I can find any trace of in The Great War. I did try to send you a message but have fallen foul of the 5 rule posting. Thought Hellfire corner was a great read!!! Many thanks Mark
