Remembered Today:

Great-great grandfather's bible discovery

Today whilst helping to sort my Grandmother's garage I stumbled across an old bible. In the front cover is written:

George Ferris

2nd Batt Royal S Reserve

Cambridge Barracks

Portsmouth

An exciting find but I am unsure who George served with or when. Can anyone help me to understand exactly what the 'Royal S' stands for? This bible may have been used prior to WW1 so I am unsure when he served with the 'Royal S'.

Many thanks,

Andrew

Andrew

I believe it stands for Royal Southern Reserve, a Home defence unit at the beginning of the 20th Century (1900-1902ish).

Hope this helps

Steve.

That's exciting, Andrew! Have you anything else of your great grandfather's? Medals, photos etc?
