Remembered Today:

Pvt GA Gilbey - Ryl Fusiliers

Private George Ambrose Gilbey (81333) died on 4 October 1918 aged 36 and is buried in Great Sampford (St Michael) Churchyard in Essex. He was with 11 Bn Royal Fusiliers.

He is the only CWGC burial in this cemetery and I wondered if anyone had any info on him - particularly how he ended up here. His father lived in Great Sampford so I wonder if he died while home on leave or was recovering from wounds at home.

Many thanks.

Neil

not on soldiers died - could have been discharged and then died of wounds - have you check the MIC for a SWB ?

Coldstreamer - thanks for looking on SDGW for me.

About 6pm today I was asked about him by a friend of mine who lives in Great Sampford and sees his grave every time she walks through the cemetery. So I have not done anything on him myself. I was sort of hoping the Forum could do all the work and I could take the credit!! :P
