Can anyone help with the location of the 3 AIF in October 1917 please? Somewhere around Ypres I would guess but would like a more specific location if possible.

Part of 1 Aust Inf Bde, 1 Aust Division

1 October in the Dickebusch area

Night 2/3 October moved to Westhoek ridge

Night 3/4 October moved to Assembly Area in preparation for the attack on Broodseinde

4 October part of the Right Brigade, 1 Aust Division attack

5 October Held captured ground

Night 5/6 October 1 Aust Inf Bde relieved by 3 Aust Inf Bde

By 9 October they were in the Wippenhoek area

Thanks for the info, Chris. Lockhart is a common name in Newtongrange and this particular lad is a distant relative (from my gg grandfather's brother). The family left the village early in the 1900s and emigrated to Australia. It is tragic he came all that way back again to die. He is listed with his pals on the Menin Gate.

Keith have you seen John Tillie Lockhart from Newtongrange he died with the AIF. Here is a link to his page on my website - John
