qwerty Posted 16 April , 2007 Posted 16 April , 2007 Hi, I’m currently researching my Great Uncle, John Frederick Davies who I believe served with the London Regiment, The Queens. I know he suffered a gunshot wound to the body but how would I find out if he were entitled to a SWB? I presume it involves a trip to the NA but where do I look once I’m there? Thanks.
Ken Lees Posted 16 April , 2007 Posted 16 April , 2007 Firstly, I would check the Medal Index Cards. There is an online index and you can pay £3.50 to download the card. MIC Online The Medal Index Card usually has a note on it if a Silver War Badge was issued and you can then look at the SWB Roll at the National Archives, kew for additional information which can include, SWB number (they were individually numbered), battalion served with, enlistment date, dischargedate, age at discharge and the reason for discharge. Good luck, Ken
qwerty Posted 16 April , 2007 Author Posted 16 April , 2007 Hi Ken, Thanks for the reply. I have tried to find his MIC online but I’m not sure which ones his. Perhaps someone could help me out? Thanks
Ken Lees Posted 16 April , 2007 Posted 16 April , 2007 Without further information you might struggle to find the right one. I looked at all the John Davies and none came up with the middle initial F, but searching on "J F Davies brought up just one: Click here Of course there is no guarantee that this is him either. He may have signed up without using his middle name. Have you tried any other sources for more information? Ken
