Sybil Posted 16 April , 2007 Posted 16 April , 2007 We have a birth certificate for a child born April 1916. The occupation of the father as recorded is his civilion one. Does this mean that serving soldiers were not recorded as such unless they were in the regular army? Nancy (2Ms)
PhilB Posted 16 April , 2007 Posted 16 April , 2007 I imagine the father`s occupation would be as supplied by the parents at the time of registering the birth. The registrar would put down whatever they say. I would expect a mother to give her husband`s peacetime calling. No doubt one of our members is a registrar though, so.... Phil B

Nancy (2Ms) Hello Nancy There have been several threads on this subject in the past and the general concensus was that both occupations (military and civilian) would have been listed, with civilian occupation being shown in brackets.
