If it was originally sold for 7500 why have a starting bid of 500? Why are the museum selling it or how did the seller get it? If he got it why is he selling it? Why is it so expensive...etc etc.

Im sure I read its not that rare (more scarce) but cant recall where

Fenton was a member of the No. 2 Construction Battalion, Canada's first black battalion.

The Nova Scotia-based battalion provided logging, forestry and general construction services overseas. All of the more than 600 regular soldiers were black, while all but one of its commanding officers were white.

600 - thats not rare in my book - so should be some more to find........

If I've read things correctly, these are two different medals to two different people.

This first, belonging to the black soldier, was bought by the black heritage museum. it is presumably reasonably scarce as the newspaper report mentiosn there was only one black battalion. They are not selling it and are pleased to now own it. I am unsure, from the article, if the successful bidder was using his own money or the museum's. Clearly someone "saw them coming".

The medal currently on sale seems to be being sold by someone who has chanced upon the medal; seen the recent news story and thinks they are worth a bundle, S/he is about to have a crushing realisation I suspect.

What amuses me is this comment in the Globe and Mail about the man that won the auction for them

'Bishop expressed thanks for the efforts of Thomson, who he called "a genius in EBay work."'

A bid of C$7,435.40. of someone elses money? Oh thats genius alright! Where can I sign up to be employed by them?

Maybe if Mr Thomson had not publisised the sale the Victory Medal the Black Cultural Centre could have been able to acquire the medal for considerably less than to eventually had to pay.

I wonder who was second bidder?

Perhaps the person selling this should donate this medal to a museum as well or seek out Glyns website so it can be reunited.
