Muerrisch Posted 15 April , 2007 Posted 15 April , 2007 Did the TTC ceremony continue during the war, please. And, separately, does anyone out there collect TTC programmes?
HERITAGE PLUS Posted 15 April , 2007 Posted 15 April , 2007 Grumpy Only just seen your post. The TTC did not continue during the war. This site lists details of each ceremony from 1895. Dave http://www.trooping-the-colour.co.uk/trooping/details.htm
squirrel Posted 16 April , 2007 Posted 16 April , 2007 Always referred to in the Household Division as the King's (or today Queen's) Birthday Parade. They expect all the other regiments, services and civilians to call it that as well.
Muerrisch Posted 16 April , 2007 Author Posted 16 April , 2007 do they indeed. Pedantically noted. However, ALL my considerable collection of programmes say differently!
squirrel Posted 16 April , 2007 Posted 16 April , 2007 Yes - all the publicity and the programmes refer to it as Trooping the Colour but in the Division referred to as The Queen's Birthday Parade. I was berated by several ex Guards NCO's at different times on this point.
Muerrisch Posted 16 April , 2007 Author Posted 16 April , 2007 perhaps the various parties should speak to each other!
squirrel Posted 16 April , 2007 Posted 16 April , 2007 I always found it very difficult to explain anything to Guards NCO's retired or otherwise. That was on the odd occasion where I was allowed to get a word in. A retired Coldstream Guards Major would always listen politely but then just repeat his view when I had finished. Listening to others appears not to be in their tradition except by the Officers apparently out of courtesy.

As all ex-apprentices from Arborfield will testify, you can always tell a Guardsman.... but you can't tell him much! You should have heard my uncles when I told them I was destined for the REME and not the Coldstream Guards..... some of the words have still not been translated from the Anglo-Saxon. Here's to all the Guards regiments, especially the Coldstream - Second to none? You bet! You've gotta love 'em! Nigel
Muerrisch Posted 1 May , 2007 Author Posted 1 May , 2007 do the Coldstream call their CSgts Pay Sgts, as do the Grenadiers, please?
Nigel Marshall Posted 1 May , 2007 Posted 1 May , 2007 do the Coldstream call their CSgts Pay Sgts, as do the Grenadiers, please? Not as far as I know. In my (limited) experience the NCO's and WO's of the Coldstream guards are called by their rank or appointment, and the C/Sgts I came across were always addressed as "Colour" in a reply to a question or "Colour Sergeant <name>" when you were calling them. Thats one to address to the Shinycapstar website people. Follow the link to my website and then from my links page to the Shinycapstar site. Regards, Nigel
