kaisersoffensive Posted 15 April , 2007 Posted 15 April , 2007 Hello all I would be grateful for any assistance with information on the following Officer of the RFA. Captain Henry Edward MaCaulay Studdy. The only information that I have is that he saw Boer War service with the 22nd Imperial Yeomanry, went to France in Dec 1915 and was awarded a MID.I am undertaking this for a friend but am mindful of my limitations and resources. It is believed that he came from a well to do family but i only hold a copy of Kelly's 1926.The only entry there is a Col Robert Wright Studdy who sadly lost a son -Francis Robert Beckton Studdy a Lieutenant in the Royal Navy.D.O.D. 24/02/21 so presume that he succumbed to the Flu pandemic. Can therefore any kind person who has access to De Rivigny od Debretts do a look up for me.Feel sure these people are all connected. Many thanks in anticipation. Regards, Bob Norman

linge Posted 15 April , 2007 Posted 15 April , 2007 I believe that Henry Edward MaCaulay Studdy was born in 1868 in Southsea Hampshire the son of Henry Studdy (b 1843 )(Royal Navy) and his wife Amelia Margaret Elizabeth Studdy (Nee Cropper) - Married 1867 Sevenoaks RD Kent Henry Studdy b1843 was born at Waddeton Court, Stoke Gabriel, Devon the son of Henry Studdy JP and DL for Devon (b1820) and his first wife Eleanor Frances Studdy (nee Holdsworth). Among other children they also had a son Robert Wright Studdy (b 1847). I believe this makes Robert Wright Studdy the uncle of Henry MaCaulay Studdy and Francis Robert Beckton Studdy would therfore be his cousin. Regards Pam
linge Posted 15 April , 2007 Posted 15 April , 2007 It would appear that Henry Edward MaCauley Studdy's mother Amelia Margaret Elizabeth Cropper (b1850) was the daughter of Edward Cropper (of Swaylands, Kent) and the Honourable Margaret Denman (she was previously married to Henry William MaCaulay who died in 1846 she married Edward Cropper in 1848). The Hon Margaret Denman was the daughter of Lord Chief Justice Thomas Denman, The First Baron Denman (1779-1854) see below: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_Denman...st_Baron_Denman Pam

Guest Ben Simpson Posted 29 January , 2012 Posted 29 January , 2012 Could this man be part of the Studdy family, Sir Henry Studdy Kt. CBE.KPM. In 1935 he was appointed as Chief Constable of Northumberland and then in 1943 he became CC of Durham County Constabulary, after a year he became CC of West Riding Constabulary until he retired in 1959 As a boy, I knew Sir Henry Study and his wife. They were friends of my father, Sir Joseph Simpson KBE onetime Commissioner of Metropolitan Police. We used to visit 'Harry' Studdy at his home in Budleigh Salterton (as I remember). He used to tell me stories about life in the Indian Army, and I remember one particular tale about him driving a Model T Ford into a souk and knocking over an old lady. Studdy preceeded my father as Chief Constable of Northumberland and I believe was later an HMI (HM's Inspector of Constabulary). I have entered his name in the table at the foot of my father's wickipedia entry http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joseph_Simpson but the editors have removed a reference that I put in some time ago to a photograpic portrait held at the National Portrait Gallery [ http://images.npg.org.uk/collections/search/portrait.php?LinkID=mp79984&rNo=0&role=sit ] copies of which are available from them.
Guest Ben Simpson Posted 3 February , 2012 Posted 3 February , 2012 I have now obtained a photo of Sir Henry (Harry) Studdy who was Chief Constable of Northumberland, along with 3 other CCs, from Northumbria branch of National Assn of Retired Police Officers (NARPO). I have also updated the link to his photographic portrait on NPG website, which now clearly states him to be CC of Northumberland (at the time of the photo). I hope these links will be left on the wicki site at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joseph_Simpson As a boy, I knew Sir Henry Study and his wife.
