jbenjami Posted 10 April , 2007 Posted 10 April , 2007 Hello there, I wondered if anyone knew whether prison sentences laid down for various offences during the war, were actually served once the war had ended? Many sentences were reduced from the original decisions of the courts martials during the course of the war, (89 % of death sentences commuted I believe), but when these were commuted to, for example xx years penal servitude or whatever, were they served in full and if so where was this likely to be...military prisons or regular prisons?? Also can anyone clarify for me the differences between hard labour and penal servitude? Thanks very much, Jane
