JulianB Posted 10 April , 2007 Posted 10 April , 2007 I am wondering if any Cheshire folk might be able to tell which Bn number 200578 might be in I am trying to find a George Clifton who was certainly a POW in 1918, MIC online has a few possibilities this being the most probable thanks Julian
JulianB Posted 10 April , 2007 Author Posted 10 April , 2007 Thanks Mel, Actually I've just been on the WO 161 site at TNA where amazingly they DO have his statement and refer to him as 9th Cheshires, possibly a mistake. The 4th makes much more sense as he came from Birkenhead. I'll go and check next time I'm in Kew. Julian
John_Hartley Posted 10 April , 2007 Posted 10 April , 2007 Perhaps he trained with 9/Cheshire but was transferred before he went overseas. Not at all uncommon with Cheshires, particularly 1916 recruits which he may have been. John
BeppoSapone Posted 10 April , 2007 Posted 10 April , 2007 I don't know if it helps, but my great uncle was also from Birkenhead and also 1/4 Cheshires. His number was 202410: http://www.cwgc.org/search/casualty_detail...casualty=457583
Guest Roger 62 Posted 19 July , 2007 Posted 19 July , 2007 Hi Be really interested in anything you find out about 1/4th Cheshires. Particularly the Unit history relating to the last days of the war & the action at Tieghem (sp?) Not a relative (it turns out) but a namesake of my Grandfathers from Wallasey: BARROW, GEORGE ARTHUR Lance Corporal "D" Coy. 1st/4th Bn. Cheshire Regiment 200193 http://www.cwgc.org/search/casualty_detail...asualty=4024416 Just in case anyone has long memories & a sense of 'deja vue' I was this poster too http://1914-1918.invisionzone.com/forums/i...mp;#entry206878 not sure why I've re-invented myself; apologies it's just age, not designed to confuse
