Guest Trenchwire Posted 10 April , 2007 Posted 10 April , 2007 I have no idea if any one can point me in the right direction and i would really appreciate any help that can be offered. About two years ago i purchased an officers diary, unfortunately it is unnamed, the opening pages starts with 'arrived at le Harve on the 10/11/1915." It mentions how he returned to 202 coy 2nd field company on the 3/3/1916. There is a mention about two soldiers that were killed whilst fishing with gun cotton, there names were Cpl Diggle and Cpl winter and were both killed on the 20/3/1916. And another entry states that on the 7/6/1916 lt Clift was wounded in the left cheek by a wooden splinter from a shell burst that exploded over there dugout. Unfortunately the last entry in the diary was posted on the 30/8/1916. so i can only presume he was injured or of course killed. Now how do i find out who this officer was? If you can help or cant read the pictures i have posted, please email and i will gladly send clearer pictures to you. many thanks Alan.

Guest mruk Posted 10 April , 2007 Posted 10 April , 2007 Hello, I couldn't find anything on CWGC relating to the dates for Winter, but here are the following details for Diggle. Diggle, W. Cpl. No. 81328 [R.E. 202nd F.C.] D. 20-3-1916. Cemetery-Memorial: Chipilly Communal Cemetery Extension. A. 13. I can't help with the id of the officer, I'm afraid, though here is a list of those reported kiiled or wounded in the September edition of The Times [first week], assuming he was still with the Royal Engineers. It's a long shot, and there are probably easier ways, but you could always cross-check the first list with CWGC. It's s start. B.V. Colchester H.W.S. Husbands L.K. Scott J. Murly-Gotto V.C.D. Boyd Carpenter R. Burleigh [RFC] R.H. Gregg Wounded A.M. Clarke T. Higgins A.R. Howlands G.P. Scott W.I. Travers A.P. Hobson Cheers, Dave
