Nigel Marshall Posted 18 July , 2007 Author Share Posted 18 July , 2007 Does anyone know what the criteria is for appearing in Who's who? (not having made it in there my self!). I know DSO winners made it in to Debrett's Knightage, Baronetage and Companionage. Is WW more a case of whether you are/were famous? Mark Hi Mark, The simple answer is that there are no hard and fast rules relating to inclusion in the book. It doesn't neccessarily follow that if you are famous you will get in. Many of those included in Who's Who were not famous, however they were at, or approaching, the top of their profession. In Who's Who there are many senior Civil Servants, both Home and Imperial who could never have been classed as famous but are included. With the requests for look ups, I have been surprised at the range of people who have made it into Who's Who. Aristocrats, politicians, military leaders, Indian princes, bishops of places at Home and the far flung reaches of the Empire, Engineers, Chemists, they are all there. In many cases though, it is very difficult to put your finger on one single reason why the person in question has made it into Who's Who. See post # 21 of this thread for the Who's Who explanation of who gets in. The DSO recipient making it into Debretts is less of a mystery. The full title of a recipient of the DSO is a Companion of the Distinguished Service Order, and so the 'Companionage' test is met.
