Mark Hone Posted 11 December , 2003 Share Posted 11 December , 2003 I was surprised to discover when checking material for a 'history in the news' feature at school that there doesn't seem to be a site with details of all the animals who have won this 'non-human VC'. Even the PDSA site, the organisation which awards the medal. only has a brief history of the award and descriptions of recent winners. I know that it was only instigated in 1943, but did they make any retrospective World War One awards? (They made an award to a Second World War dog as recently as 2000). Guest Jeff Floyd Posted 11 December , 2003 Share Posted 11 December , 2003 I recall a Dickin Medal to a WWI messenger pigeon being sold at auction in London a number of years ago -- mounted in a glass case with the stuffed recipient! Now there's a complete medal group. Jeff Floyd
