Duncan Posted 20 March , 2007 Share Posted 20 March , 2007 Is it possible to tell the enlistment date by this mans service number Private DM2/154620 Victor William Haydon Blatchford, Army Service Corps? I know the 'DM' stands for Driver Mechanical Transport, but does anyone know the significance of the ‘2’? Also, his unit on CWGC is shown as Mechanical Transport Norwood Depot – does anyone know anything about this e.g. where it was, what it did etc? Cheers, Duncan. delta Posted 20 March , 2007 Share Posted 20 March , 2007 DM2 means mechanical transport learners. the 2 relates to the foramtio of Kitcheners Seond Army but I know of many M2 who joined up in the late 1915. Norwood was one of 5 sub-depots, which their HQ based at Lee in East London, formed on 30 Jun 1917.
