Remembered Today:

East Preston Military Hospital

Recommended Posts

I was perusing that remarkable list of military hospitals and was interested in knowing whether anyone can tell me anything about the East Preston Hospital near Worthing. Is it still standing? If anyone can give me a description of it or any other information I would be most grateful.

Thank you.

That's OK, Cynthia. I don't mind hob-nobbing with the ORs!

My father-in-law- informs me that there is not a hospital at all in East Preston. However, there is a building which used to be a workhouse and is now converted into flats - this could have been used as a hospital during WW1.

He is going to investigate for you by speaking to the local historian who knows all about East Preston. I'll get back to you.

Thank you, Sir! I appreciate your efforts in checking this out. Sounds like it might have been a pretty depressing place if it was once a workhouse. I have visions of institutional red bricks and big iron gates. What an environment to recuperate! I imagine the flats are much nicer.

I really appreciate your help and your not minding fraternising with the ranks!
