Storing Original WW1 Documents

I wondered if anyone out there had any advice regards storing letters etc in plastic wallets. I seem to remember hearing/reading somewhere that conventional plastic wallets should not be used because of there acidic nature. Is this true and if so what other plastic wallets are available ?

Thanks

There was some discussion on this recently.

In my experience working at my local museum:

i) if unsure wear gloves, generally good practice.

ii) hot and wet = mildew; avoid.

iii) avoid repeated exposure to extremes of light.

iv) rapid changes in conditions = damage, keep objects stable

v) photocopying a document exposes it to heat and light simultaneously, keep

to a minimum, copy your copies.

vi) keep flat, don't fold, certainly don't iron out creases.

vii) record your collection, transcribe and index; preservation by record.
