jim_davies Posted 23 August , 2007 Share Posted 23 August , 2007 Steve, Thank you, I was going by what the online MICs had him as, and as we all know there's plenty of transcription errors.... Another salesman. Wonder what they sold? Peghill was commissioned into the W Yorks. Jim

Ice Tiger Posted 25 August , 2007 Share Posted 25 August , 2007 Sorry again Andy if I'm treading on toes Steve Just checked, all toes intact & no bruising The way I see it, one aim of the forum is to share knowledge & where more than one pal has that knowledge it doesn't matter who shares it, just as long as it is shared. Only thing is now I'm intrigued as to why all these men, of different family names from Dulwich enlisted in Kingston, not their nearest, and what's the salesman link. Did some great sales firm in Kingston recruit their salesmen from Dulwich. Seems extremely unlikely Can't wait for someone to share that Andy

jim_davies Posted 26 August , 2007 Share Posted 26 August , 2007 Andy and Steve, At least one of the Lincs lads service papers are on ancestry.com-Donald Barrance's, unfortunately they don't really add to why he joined the Lincs, or why at Dulwich. Maybe they all enlisted there, especially to join the Lincs (?) Jim

Ice Tiger Posted 1 September , 2007 Share Posted 1 September , 2007 Bob Here are the only E Harrison's. The only East Surrey Rgt E Harrison ( E, Alf) was a decorator by trade.Sorry I couldn't help Andy
Ice Tiger Posted 1 September , 2007 Share Posted 1 September , 2007 Colin These are the only O'Connor's who enlisted in Surrey. Although Southwark was technicaly in Surrey, it is London so a search of the London recruitment registers may give you the answer, if they exist. Best of luck with your research Andy

Phil996 Posted 7 September , 2007 Share Posted 7 September , 2007 Hi Andy I'd be very grateful if you could look for any reference to my grandfather, who served in the East Surrey Regiment. He was - 22071 Pte Alfred G Waller Date of Attestation 3/12/15 Born 1884 Occupation - bricklayer I don't know where he enlisted but I believe he was living in Norwood at the time which was in the Metropolitan Borough of Lambeth, formed in 1900, though still regarded as part of Surrey. Any info you can provide will be much appreciated. Phil

Phil996 Posted 12 September , 2007 Share Posted 12 September , 2007 Phil So many people on the forum have helped me so I'm always happy to assist where I can. Andy Hi Andy The 3rd December date is on his 'Active Service' paybook - but I'm sure you're right that the date on the register is the correct one. Probably it was just a clerical error when the date was put on the paybook. I'm going to post an enquiry soon asking for help in tracing his movements in France /Belgium but in the meantime, thanks again for your help. Best wishes Phil
