David E I Jones Posted 9 December , 2003 Share Posted 9 December , 2003 This is four chaps of the 1/4th (Denbighshire) Battalion. My Great Grandfather is far right (the good looking one!) Is it possible to ascertain approximately when the picture was taken? He served 1914 to 1916. Would it be before? Or maybe during? Any other information would most welcome. I do not know the identity of his comrades unfortunately but one may be his brother in law. Regards Dave
Muerrisch Posted 9 December , 2003 Share Posted 9 December , 2003 With the exception of the corporal's uniform, they look as if they have come straight off the Quarterbloke's shelves, and the trousers seem never to have seen a puttee. The cap is a stiff pre-war type issue. From this slender evidence I suggest early in the period rather than later, and in Wales rather than in France/ Flanders. There are some genuine experts on the minutiae of clothing amongst the Pals: perhaps someone can sort this out? Do we have his name and number, please? I can tell a fair bit from a regimental number of RWF.

David E I Jones Posted 10 December , 2003 Author Share Posted 10 December , 2003 Its difficult to see on the scan but the medal ribbon is above the pocket, I have his medal group and it includes a QSA. What I’m looking at is next to the pocket flap button. Looks like a second button.. Dave
