I have an interest in the 8th Royal Scots Territorial Bn, and was wondering what insignia other than shoulder title and cap badge they would wear throughout the war.

I hope to reenact this Bn someday and looking for any pointers/help.

any info recieved appreciated

Hi Douglass

Sorry I can't help with the insignia, but I was just wondering whether you have contacted the Royal Scots Museum at the Edinburgh Castle? They might have pictures or other items that might prove useful.

Regards

Hi there

In early 1915 the 8th RS were attached to the 51st Highland Division for the rest of the war which wore the famous HD patch, they were also the division pioneers and wore the crossed pick and rifle collar tag , here is a picture of a typical 8th man and a another RS man , don't know which battalion though. The 7th Division insignia is a very dull white circle mounted on a black box... I know which one I would choose.

August 1914 : in Haddington. Part of Lothian Brigade, Scottish Coast Defences.

Proceeded to France, landing (Le) Havre 5 November 1914.

11 November 1914 : attached to 22nd Brigade, 7th Division.

19 August 1915 : transferred to 51st (Highland) Division, as Pioneers.
