Lieut-General Henry Merrick Lawson, CB (1859-1933)

Born 30 Jan. 1859, Dublin. son of James Lawson, Justice of the Court of the Queen's Bench, Ireland. Educated Cheltenham College and RMA Woolwich. Lieut. Royal Engineers, 1877. Served Suakin Expedition 1884, Nile Expedition 1884-5, seved with the Egyptian Army in Sudan Camapaign 1898 (dangerously wounded). Served in South Africa 1899-1902 (Brigadier-General on the Staff. QSA 4 clasps, KSA 2 clasps, MiD, CB); ADC to the King; on Staff DAQMG Dublin 1889-92; Director of Movements and Quarterings, War Office 1904-6; CO 13th Infantry Brigade, Dublin 1906-7; Major-General in charge of Administration, Aldershot Command 1907-10; CO 2nd Division 1910-14; Lt-Governor Guernsey and Alderney 1914-15.

Died 1933.

Lt General 1916; special service theatre of war 1916-17, Inspector General of Communications, Italian Expeditionary Force 1917-18. Retired 1921. Colonel Commandant RE from 1922.
