Bob Coulson Posted 18 October , 2002 Share Posted 18 October , 2002 Does anyone know if the Shell Hole will be open over the Armistice weekend?? :
Paul Reed Posted 18 October , 2002 Share Posted 18 October , 2002 I saw John this week, and he confirmed he would be open on 11th November; closed the next day, as per usual (a Tuesday). He will also be open the weekend leading up to it - i.e. 9th/10th. Might see you there!
Bob Coulson Posted 18 October , 2002 Author Share Posted 18 October , 2002 Thanks Paul, he has been closed on my last two visits so hopefully will be able to have a good look.
Paul Reed Posted 18 October , 2002 Share Posted 18 October , 2002 Okay - will look him up and post the details tomorrow. If Rose says its true, it must be!
Muerrisch Posted 20 July , 2003 Share Posted 20 July , 2003 Shell Hole misses a great deal of my custom with what I judge to be idiosyncratic opening and closing. Excellent shop, but I often bounce off the front door! Very user-friendly once you can get inside. As my visits to F&F usually involve leading a party of friends round, and being responsive to their developing needs, it is difficult to pre-plan my date/time for a bookshop visit. Just an observation, but clearly I am not the only one with an accessibility problem.
Paul Reed Posted 20 July , 2003 Share Posted 20 July , 2003 Must confess I have hardly been able to get in there this year; which is a shame. It has forced me to use the other bookshop; the new one - The British Grenadier - which is in the road leading to the Menin Gate. Am quite impressed with this, and the staff, who are very friendly and helpful.
Bob Coulson Posted 20 July , 2003 Author Share Posted 20 July , 2003 Didn't I read somewhere that the Shell Hole is up for sale. Bob
Mark Hone Posted 20 July , 2003 Share Posted 20 July , 2003 An establishment answering the description of the Shell Hole, but not explicitly named as such, appears in a 'For Sale' advert in the current WFA Bulletin.
Paul Reed Posted 20 July , 2003 Share Posted 20 July , 2003 Right on both counts - it is up for sale, and the advert in the recent Bulletin was for the Shell Hole. Why they didn't want to name it is beyond me.
ianw Posted 20 July , 2003 Share Posted 20 July , 2003 I think the high price asked for the property that may well be the "Shell Hole" reflects the burgeoning and continuing interest in the Great War - so I suppose we should be pleased - or should we fear over commercialisation ?
