The Akkerwinde B&B self contained rooms absolutely brilliant, food superb, friendly and cannot recommend enough, half price tickets to Flanders field museum Zonnebekke, right next to Polygone wood and next to the Museum of underground warfare, which is brilliant with a bar, brothers in arms memorial location

Superb to say to say the least

Very  nice cottage, sympathetically restored, all mod cons. Warm and cosy, I can vouch for it being warm as I'm staying here at the moment. Handy for Arras and Vimy. Pleasant unobtrusive owner.

Accommodation for 6 people with 3 bedrooms but could accommodate up to 10 easily. Excellent facilities in this fully equipped house in the quiet village of Rivière 6 miles south of Arras. Owners speak some English but I live in the village so pm me if you'd prefer to book that way or ask any questions.

Also has a 'gypsy caravan' that sleeps 5 and another large ground floor gite that is wheelchair friendly with 2 bedrooms that sleeps 4 people, in the same village.

(Will add details soon for these two)

Research and tours available if you wish to find out more during your visit.

PM me if you want more info.

Gite Carré des sources

http://www.booking.com/hotel/fr/le-gite-du-carre-des-sources.en-gb.html

Ground floor wheelchair friendly accommodation with 2 bedrooms that sleeps four people.

More pictures if you search 'french gite' on gumtree as well.

I live on the upper floor of this 3 year old house and so can thoroughly recommend.

Tranquil, beautiful area and central for all the history on offer.

Any information you need on the history of the region and it's wartime occupants is available, if I'm in!

Research and tours available if you wish to find out more during your visit.

PM me if you want more info.

Just got back from 4 nights here. Very quiet and peaceful, good comfy room and an excellent breakfast. Also a seating and kitchen area which is always useful, as I'm not keen on going out again the evening after a long day on the battlefields.

The Dug Out

Another vote for this excellent B&B in Ypres centre. Friendly helpful host, comfortable beds, superb breakfast and hundreds of WW1 artefacts to study at your leisure.

Comme un Reve

Cambrai battlefields

very comfortable B&B in Doignie,  close by the Louverval Memorial. Spacious room, fabulous shower and a kitchen area where you can prepare meals. Young owners Cindy and Remi plus the children, dog, ducks, hens, goats and geese make this an enjoyable stay.

We were also given some eggs to take away, and could help ourselves to eggs from a basket in the kitchen.

Kemmel

De Verborgen Stilte

very comfortable accommodation near La Laiterie Cemetery in Kemmel. Fabulous views of Kemmelberg, and very quiet and peaceful.

Katrien the owner is a nurse and when she works early shifts she leaves out a do it yourself breakfast which is very adequate.

Microwave and kettle in the room, and a huge, very comfortable bed.

Pals

Following a recent discussion on the merits of having a section on the Forum that would-be travellers might find useful for finding battlefield accommodation, I have instead proposed setting up a special section on the Long, Long Trail. This would be an accommodation database that woudl provide basic details, with a facility for those who have stayed there to add comments and opinions.

In order to expedite this, would you please post as replies to this thread the basic details of any accommodation that you know of. It could be a hotel, B&B, guest house, camp site, room above a pub, etc. Please in the first instance stick to France and Flanders. We can go further afield later on.

If someone else has already given details of an accommodation, no need to repeat it unless the details are wrong.

All I need is:

Accommodation Name

Postal address

Phone number if known

Email address if known

Website URL if known

Name of proprietor(s) if known

No comments other than that in this thread, please. Let it remain a simple data-gathering exercise.

I'll develop the first release this / next week and will let you know when it is available.

Good morning Chris

Fabulous bed and breakfast near Noyon, with extremely hospitable hosts. Dave brews his own beer which he is happy to share with guests. His wife Aude makes a very fine tarte au citron.

Perhaps we should rename this thread  'Michelle's travel blog'.

note;
that is a purely tongue-in-cheek remark and is NOT intended to be critical or sarcastic in any way
[thought I had better add that as there are so many people these days who delight in taking offence, usually on behalf of others, where there is none]

Maybe "Michelle goes to the places most people don't reach!" I've been very lucky  that I have had 4 trips to the battlefields this year.
