Pompelle is not much unless you want to see lots of picklehaubs, the cathedral is one of the best and it's being shelled casued Germans much animosity around the world. I hope it's raining, seeing a great cathedral shed water is awesome.

Not far from Rheims there is the Russian memorial area, a cemetery that is part Polish and part French, Navarin farm, and various other sites. These are all within an hour or less drive.

You could also visit Berry au Bac. There is nothing very specific to see there, but it was a well known battl area nd there is a good restaurant opposite the French cemetery. Hermonville, just up the road has a little known British cemetery and the village itself is non-stop champagne growing (as are the others in the area), and the champagne is so cheap you would pay more for the cartons in Britain!
