Lionel Furs Posted 31 January , 2007 Share Posted 31 January , 2007 Hello, I would like to find the WW1 Service Record of Mr Frank Nunn who was my Foster Father during WW2. The following information may be of some help. Born. 17 May 1885 in Ardleigh, County of Essex. England. Joined the Middlesex Regiment. After only two weeks in France in 1916 sustained wounds in lower leg, groin and arm. Shipped back to England for convalescence. Soldiers Number unkown. Dad died 9 January 1958 at "Hopewell" Lushington Rd, Lawford, Manningtree, Essex. England. Thank you for any information that you may uncover. Regards, Joey Nunn. MelPack Posted 31 January , 2007 Share Posted 31 January , 2007 Hello Joey Frank's Medal Index Card can be downloaded from here: http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/documen...;resultcount=19 In view of the information that you already have, it should confirm entitlement to the BWM and Victory Medals as well as a Silver War badge if applied for. The Card contains references to the Medal Roll index from which it should be possible to identify Frank's Battalion. Once you have this then you can trace his movements from the Battalion War Diary. Lionel Furs Posted 5 February , 2007 Author Share Posted 5 February , 2007 Hi Mel, I would like to take this opportunity to say 'thank you' for the information that you made available to me concerning Mr. Frank Nunn. It looks like he served in the 2nd.Battalion of the Middlesex Regiment. I will check out his medals but I rather think that they have been issued to him long ago. Again, thank you so much for your research. Lionel Furs ( Joey Nunn )
MelPack Posted 6 February , 2007 Share Posted 6 February , 2007 Hello Joey If your dad was with the 2nd Middlesex then he could have been one of the Battalion's 601 casualties on the first day of the Somme. Have a look at the main site here: http://www.1914-1918.net/Diaries/wardiary-2msex.htm Regards Mel
