findabetterole Posted 29 January , 2007 Share Posted 29 January , 2007 Hi Seph, Many thanks for reply. Are you able to describe the badge please. Cheers, James. The badge is basically an instrument called a 'Liar' (hope that's the correct spelling), which is in effect a small hand held harp. It's oval in shape (like a horse shoe with a bar across the the two tips. The strings attach to this bar and stretch down to attach to the other end or bottom of the horse shoe curve. For some reason I cannot attach a pic, but i'm sure that another member will kindly place a pic on the thread for you. It's a very common badge for regimental band members. Hope this has helped. As they say: a picture paints a thousand words. Seph

walrus Posted 30 January , 2007 Share Posted 30 January , 2007 Did the Army still maintain he tradition of employing bandsmen as stretcher bearers when 'in the field', at this time? Tom (the Walrus)

Tom (the Walrus) I don't how long the practice continued afterwards, but it was still in use during WW2.
