Guest Aces High Posted 27 November , 2003 Share Posted 27 November , 2003 Did Liverpool ever suffer an airraid by airships during ww1?
Guest Pete Wood Posted 27 November , 2003 Share Posted 27 November , 2003 No. Although Liverpool docks was high on the priority list, the Zeppelins never actually bombed Liverpool (although some of their commanders thought they had hit the city). See this thread on the forum for more http://www.1914-1918.org/forum/index.php?showtopic=6518 The closest the Germans came was on the night of 12th April 1918. Zeppelin L61, commanded by Herbert Ehrlich, got within 10 miles of Liverpool - he was actually over Runcorn - but the city was blacked out. He headed north and dropped his bombs on Wigan (which Ehrlich thought was Sheffield).
