I am a desendant of a WW1 vet in the 42 Rainbow Division. I am really interested in the history if the unit my grandfather was in. The two document I have has him in the 167 Infantry. He was from NC, and fought in the battles of St. Mihiel, Esay Sector???, Meuse Argonne, Kriemhilde Stellung Hill 288, Cote de Chatillon, Advance to Sedan, then Army of Occupation.

He was discharged from Camp Lee, Virginia on May 3rd, 1919.

Thank to anyone that can help me.

I have collected some information, but no one can really identify him as being in their company. I have it down to the 42 Rainbow, 167 Infantry, but I can not read the Company "letter". I also have not seen his name listed anywhere to date, just his records of the battles and discharge papers.

Monte Sherrill,

Your question is about seven years old, but I landed here while searching for information on my father's serice in WWI. He also served in the 42nd Division, 167th (Alabama) Regiment. He was in company E which was part of the 2nd Battaion. If you have not yet determined what company your grandfather was in, I think I can pin it down to a battalion.

During the St. Michiel offensive, the 1st Battalion fought at Essey, which was composed of Companies A - D.

The history that contains that and more information is online and can be read free. I'm sure you could find more evidence by reading the history of 167th Regiment.

If you are still pursuing this information, respond to this and I'll give you some worthwhile links.
