Pte H C Radley Herts

Came across the following during my research.

Private T.C. Radley ( I believe it should be H.C.) Herts Regiment.

Can't find him on either SDGW or CWGC (There is a George Radley Herts - But I've already got him)

So I think I am looking for Henry Charles RADLEY - Got him on 1901 see attachment - right address, age - as per newspaper cutting.

OK I know its only newspaper stuff , but could some kind soul (Call Terry D) be kind enough to check him on Overseas deaths.

From the newspaper date I would suggest his death around Sept 1917.

Thanks

Glyn

Just noticed his 'In Memoriam' in the local paper a year later, so he didn't suddenly put in an appearance.

It names him as Private Henry Charles Radley and interestingly put him as KIA on Sept 2nd 1917.

Oh well looks like I'm stuck with another mystery.

Got him - for some reason he was using the surname Jennings as well as Radley as a middle name and just to make it a bit harder to find him he was using Thomas instead of Henry

Oh well at least I've solved my own mystery

John

When I came across the 'In Memoriam' bit in the paper it gave me a date, so I put that with Herts Reg into SDGW and Bingo there he was. Initially I could only go on names without a date.

Just nice to get another sorted :)

Easy innit

I noticed that although yer man appears to have been born around 1889, his parents, Thomas Radley and Sarah Ann Jennings, were only married in the second quarter of 1891.

So he may well have been registered as a "Jennings", hence the use of this surname.

Stephen

Thanks for that bit of info, interesting as there are a couple of Jennings in this part of my research.

Cheers
